Quality Engineer, Product Metallurgist

Job DescriptionCleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate opportunity for a Quality Engineer at our Burns Harbor location.
The Quality Engineeris responsible for supporting the daily quality activities including order setup, order dressing, production routing of products, implementation of a new grade book in the PSI MES system; developing daily, weekly, monthly, and annual quality summaries for the Burns Harbor plant and the four quality divisions and work as a troubling shooting resource for the four quality divisions.
The ideal candidate must strive to improve quality system compliance, reduction of waste/non-conforming material, and metallurgical product improvement to make the highest quality steel.
The candidate should have prior steel industry experience, strong computer programming skills, statistical troubling shooting skills, be self-motivated, and thrive in a fast-paced work environment with complex operations.
Summary of
Responsibilities:
Comply with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
As part of the Quality Team works closely with operations, engineering, maintenance, and other technical resources to drive results and improvement in the quality metrics.
Possess the ability to work effectively within a team environment, utilizing clear and effective communication skills.
Support the order design and review activities in the PSI MES system.
Work with the facility lead engineers to program into the PSI MES system the routing of product, and implements the product chemistry and manufacturing recipes necessary to satisfy those requirements.
Regularly communicates PSI MES issues to management and the workforce.
Assists in the development of corrective actions of PSI MES issues.
Reviews the mill's quality performance and assists in the continuous improvement driving the PSI MES system.
Assists the four quality divisions in resolving quality-related issues using DMAIC or other problem-solving techniques.
Develop and maintain a quality summary system for the Burns Harbor facility and the four quality divisions.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in computer engineering or a related field.
Two (2) years previous experience in an industrial, or related environment.
Some knowledge of steel defect origins and metallurgical principles in steelmaking, plate, hot rolling, and finishing.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Must be familiar with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) and SQL.
Interpersonal skills and the ability to operate effectively within a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
Preferred
Qualifications:
Two (2) years of experience working in the steel industry.
Bachelor's Degree in computer engineering or a related field.
Familiar with the programming language Python.
Some knowledge of steelmaking steps and routings.
Demonstrated success in defining and resolving problems.
Strong analytical skills.
